Thank you Bobby, You're on God's Team Now! RIP

What a terrible loss to the Murcer, Yankee and MLB Families.  As a kid playing Little League, all my friends wanted to be Mickey Mantle. I wanted to be Bobby Murcer.  He was always playing hard on the field and smiling off of it.  In 1979, the summer I graduated from High school Thurman Munson died in a plane crash.  Bobby gave the eulogy for his friend the day of the funeral and that night, the Yankees played the Orioles and Bobby drove in all 5 runs in a 5-4 win.  For years, Bobby has worked as a broadcaster for YES network and my favorite days have been the Old Timers Day games where Bobby in uniform goes out on the field miked up, and made the ceremonies the most entertaining I've ever seen.

A great player and even greater person, my prayers are with his family.

Growing up a Yankee fan I would watch for only two reasons, Murcer and Munson. The loss for the Yankees and the Murcer family as well as all of baseball is great. I remember watching those two and thinking how great it would be to be them. As a boy there was nothing better than going to Yankee stadium to watch them play. I will cherish those memories and I give my condolences to the Murcer family.

While being a Pirate fan, I had the luxury of growing up in New York and in turn watching a great many Yankee games on WPIX channel 11 with Bill White and Phil Rizzuto. For those of you that have ever had the pleasure of listening to Phil broadcast a baseball game, he was the ultimate homer and rightfully so...

The Yankees hey-day had come and gone, Bobby Murcer was always look to, to be the leader of these new Yankees. Unfairly he was seen as the second coming of Mickey Mantle, being from Oklahoma and being a centerfielder, he was thrust into New York and all it that meant... Phil stuck by Bobby, even more so after his so-called 'exile' from baseball and return to the Yankees post their return to the post season.

Phil having played on so many great teams and starring in so many playoffs battles, felt for Bobby even more than the average guy and in turn he made Bobby become my favorite Yankee. His playing career was very good, never living up to the billing of the next Mick, he still managed a very good career and loved the game as much as anybody I have ever seen play. Even in the old timers games that you mention he as not only always there, he was always thankful for being there.

Bobby Murcer was a Yankee through and through, I am glad that he had an opportunity to be a part of the team albeit as an announcer during their latest glory. The Yankee family has lost one of it's greats, but I am sure he still has a watchful eye on his team.

Even though I'm a Mets fan, Bobby Murcer was always my favorite player.  My dad's a Yankee fan and he took me to Yankee Stadium when i was about 6 or 7 in the early 70's before it was remodeled to see a game there.  Bobby hit a home run (the first one I'd ever seen live!) and I was a fan for life.
